Due to our innovative design, Hydra is capable of pushing the boundaries of both UAV payload capacity and range for its size. Our modular design allows for quick reconfiguration to fulfil the needs of any mission. Hydra can deliver a max payload of up to 140 kg, or out to a distance of up to 48 km and then return to base. The Jet engines can operate at up to 29,500 ft.
The blue shaded area on the chart below depicts the overall mission capability of Hydra; achieved through its three possible configurations. Operational range is the distance at which Hydra can deliver a payload and then return to base.
The nominal 100 kg payload and NATO half pallet form factor of Hydra makes it ideal for transporting large amounts of ammunition, medical supplies. A future capability could even lift a person in need of medical extraction.
Example Payloads:
141 Blood transfusion kit + blood bag.
200 L109A1 hand grenades.
8000 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
35 Sleeping bags.
Two L111A1 Heavy machine guns with tripods.
Hydra can perform a delivery to a location 32 km away and then return to base covering a total of 64 km in the process.
This makes it ideally suited for last-mile resupply and ship to shore applications.
With an empty mass under 39 kg and the capability of easy disassembly, Hydra is light enough to be transported by a single soldier or another Hydra.
As most of the energy mass is Jet A-1 Fuel (12 kWh/kg), which is readily available, at low cost (£0.75/l), at many military bases due to its use in helicopters, Hydra does not have a need for the large, heavy, and expensive batteries (found in most heavy lift UAVs).
Hydra uses advanced sensor fusion and Deep Neural Networks to detect hazards at up to 2 km in all weather conditions, day and night.
It can detect static and moving hazards and can even distinguish between different types of flying objects.
It can also identify ground targets for payload drop / pickup, enabling it to operate in GPS denied environments.
This long range, precise awareness allows it to interact safely with other aircraft.
